Many of you know Lauren Azeltine as our very hard working Parish Administrator. Some of you know that she often sings with the St. James’ Choir for our services of Evensong. But the reason we don’t see her on Sunday morning is that she is a member of All Saints, Beverly Hills, and is a regular member of the choir there.
From now till August 30, Lauren will be spending her vacation on pilgrimage with the All Saints’ Choir as they sing in residence at two of the most famous seats of the Anglican choral tradition in England: Wells Cathedral and Salisbury Cathedral, where they will sing the daily services of Evensong, as well as the principal Sunday morning services for one week in each location. The pilgrimage will then culminate in their singing at a special service at the Chapel Royal of St. Peter ad Vincula at the Tower of London.
Singing every day in Cathedral offers a spiritual rhythm and discipline that is unfamiliar to most American choristers. Those who take this kind of journey are deeply enriched by the experience.
The pilgrimage will also include special activities such as following the footsteps of George Herbert on his twice weekly walk from St Andrews, Bremerton to services at Salisbury Cathedral. Lauren is no stranger to these venues as she has sung with the St. James’ choir on their pilgrimage 2010 that included singing Evensong in Wells and a visit to Salisbury, among other locations.
In addition, five members of the Choir of St. James’ are also going on this pilgrimage: Gerry Craft, Susie and Brett McDermid, Stephen Salts, and Andrea Zomorodian.
We wish Lauren and the choir bon voyage and many blessings for this pilgrimage and safe return at it’s completion.
