Yes, children are the “future” of the church, but more importantly they are the “present” of the church. This Fall we will unveil a new way of doing Sunday School. HeARTS for God is our approach this year for teaching children about the Christian life and exploring scripture and tradition using the arts. Designed to speak to the imaginations and creativity of our children, we are pleased to announce our original, informative (and fun) program based on the liturgical seasons.
Here is a look at what we have planned:
For the past few weeks, our Sunday School children have been in Choir Camp working with Lori Jarislow, a writer and director of children’s theatre, on musical offerings which will be presented on Sept. 11, 2016 during the 10:30am service.
During the 10:30 services, Children will work on a short dramatic presentation and create costumes based on the lives of the Saints which will be presented during the 10:30 service on October 30th in advance of the Feast of All Saints on November 6th. Lori Jaroslow will direct.
Guided by an artist, children will undertake a group visual art project which will be unveiled at the beginning of Advent. Through artistic expression, Children will learn about the journey of waiting for God in anticipation of the miracle of Christmas (and no doubt delight in sharing their creation with the congregation)!
On Sundays during the 10:30 service, children will rehearse and prepare for our popular Christmas pageant which will be offered during the 4:30pm Family service on Christmas Eve.
