As most of you know, St. James’ operates a Friday afternoon soup kitchen, offering the needy and homeless a nutritious hot meal as well as a short, informal chapel service for those who wish it.
As described by Elizabeth Harris, a long-time volunteer this is wonderful ministry: “We feel that Soup Kitchen is a very special time in the week of each of our guests. Besides the nourishing and delicious meal they receive, they value the social occasion and some care deeply about their time in chapel.” Our volunteers also tell us they find themselves renewed and uplifted by the chance directly to serve those in need. But—as the end of the school year approaches, this ministry will need some additional volunteers who can fill the gap. The task requires just a couple of hours, between 4 and 6:30 pm on Friday afternoons.
