On this my first day as your rector here at St. James’-in-the-City, I am sending you a warm hello. What a joy it is to be here.
Yesterday I moved into my apartment, and today into my church office-lots of changes, all of them exciting and good.
And speaking of things exciting and good, let me tell you about lunch today, a convivial gathering of church and St. James’ School staff which involved a special treat: a magnificent, multi-layer cake to celebrate new headmaster Peter Reinke and me. A cake with our faces festooning the top tier, no less! Many thanks to our school friends for hosting such a lovely and welcoming lunch.
I want to say right up front how thrilled I am to have Peter Reinke as a partner in serving our community. He and I look forward to enthusiastic collaboration, harmony and, of course, lots more cake. Equally, I am thrilled to be serving with Jim Buonemani, the Rev. Jenifer Chatfield, and the Rev. John Kim. I could not ask for finer colleagues, and we are having a great time planning the church year.
More than anything else, I look forward to this weekend’s services and the chance to meet you! When you arrive, please humor me by donning a sticky nametag so I can learn your name quickly. I thank God for bringing us together, and look forward to seeing all the exciting ways our future will unfold.
Peace and blessings,
