Festive Fall Weekend

THIS Sunday is an exciting day as we welcome our Bishop Suffragan,* the Right Reverend Diane Jardine Bruce. Bishop Bruce is here for our tri-annual diocesan visitation to worship with us as we celebrate the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels (Michaelmas), administer confirmation and baptize many of our Korean parishioners, meet with the Vestry, and generally spend time with the Parish so that we get to know each other better.

It is also an extremely exciting first Sunday back with the Choir of Saint James and the inaugural Sunday when we will present LACMA Sundays Live concerts at 6pm. This week the series presents harpist Marcia Dickstein and friends. Marcia may look familiar to you as she has also been our harpist for Christmas Eve. If you haven’t already received one in the mail, you can pick up (in the Narthex) a newly-printed brochure of the whole St. James’ 2019-2020 music season.

NEXT week (October 6th) we continue the festivities with our annual celebration of the Feast of St. Francis of Assissi and Blessing of our family pets. All varieties of pets are welcome. AND plan to stay a while because during BOTH coffee hours the Boy Scouts, the Cub Scouts, and two troops of Girl Scouts, all affiliated with St. James’, are putting on a fair to celebrate this great day. Enjoy these fun activities with your family: a Bird/Fish Station, a Guided Dog Station, a Toy Making Station, an Adopt-a-Stuffed Pet Station, a Craft Station, a Photo Backdrop Area, and a Photo Display.

The following week, on October 13th, we’ll continue our fall festivities with the annual African Partnership Sunday by worshiping together in a special service and celebrating with a lunch hosted by the African Christian Fellowship. Then in the afternoon we have our first Evensong of the year along with the first International Laureates organ recital, featuring Jean-Baptiste Robin, organist of the Royal Chapel at the Palace of Versailles.

We hope to see you at as many of these events as possible!

*A suffragan bishop is an assisting bishop who is elected at diocesan convention. In Bishop Bruce’s case, she was elected in 2009 and consecrated in 2010.
