The Los Angeles Virtuosi Orchestra is a dynamic ensemble devoted to the advocacy and support of music education. Founded in 2013 as a 501© (3) non-profit organization, the ensemble was formed on the core belief that an orchestra is a unique educational resource.

The orchestra’s music director, musicians, staff and board members strive to bring the wealth of life-enriching opportunities available through the symphonic musical experience to individuals and students of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds.

The Los Angeles Virtuosi Orchestra has created a new paradigm of giving, allocating 100% net revenue from subscription performances to advance music education. 

The orchestra implements its outreach in collaborative partnerships with the community, schools, agencies and other arts organizations, and puts into action activities designed to advance student learning, development and creativity.

Maestro Carlo Ponti is known for taking audiences of all ages on musical journeys of unique interpretive depth.

He has worked at the Conductor’s Institute in Connecticut under Harold Farberman, with Andrey Boreyko, Mehli Mehta and Zubin Mehta in Los Angeles, and furthered his musical studies in Austria at the Vienna Music Academy under Leopold Hager and Erwin Acel.

Maestro Ponti was awarded Italy’s Premio Galileo award in 2006 for exceptional musical achievement. In the United States, he was the recipient of the 2008 Artistic Achievement Award from the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition and the 2009 Spirit of Hope Award from the Childhelp Foundation for his contributions to the development and advancement of young musical talent through music education. In Italy, he was co-recipient in 2011 of the Lupa di Roma prize in Rome, received the Premio Civitas 2014 award in Naples, was amongst the list of awardees of Italy’s Assoutenti 40th Anniversary Awards in 2022 for his dedication to the development of orchestral music as a cross-cultural tool for the promotion of peace, unity and communication between nations, and in 2023 received the Ordine della Stella D’Italia distinction conferred by the President of the Italian Republic on the proposal of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for contributing to the worldwide development of classical music education and performance.

Ponti was associate conductor of the Russian National Orchestra from 2000 to 2018, served as music director and principal conductor of the San Bernardino Symphony from 2001 to 2013, and in 2013 founded the Los Angeles Virtuosi Orchestra – an ensemble emphasizing music’s educational value of which he is the Music and Artistic Director, and currently performing its ninth concert season (2023-2024 in Los Angeles, California.

International festival and event appearances include the Festival d’Echternach, Festival Vancouver, Taichung Music Festival, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Bratislava Spring Music Festival, St. Petersburg Palaces Music Festival, Hungary’s Royal Days Festival, Festival Internacional de Musica de Villena, Avila Primavera Fest, Montecatini International Opera Festival and Academy, Malaga’s Julio Musical, Festival Napa Valley, Tuscan Sun Festival, the Europaischer Kulturpreis at the Vienna State Opera, the Köln Musik Triennale, and the United Nation’s World Tourism Organization’s First Global Youth Tourism Summit promoting Ukrainian National Music as a catalyst for international diplomacy and peace.

Celebrated as “a brilliant debut” (Audio and Record), Ponti’s recording with the Russian National Orchestra of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition on Pentatone Classics quickly garnered critical acclaim. A second album with the RNO featuring Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade was hailed as “superb” (All Music) and “a work in which every little instrumental timbre has a meaning all its own” (Audio Video Club of Atlanta).

Ponti’s work and performances have been featured on ABC, CBS, NBC/Universal, NPR, PBS, ORF, Sky News, Spectrum, KTLA, Fox News, Leonard Lopate, Dennis Miller, Symphony Magazine, Classical KUSC, the Associated Press, American Public Media’s Performance Today and America’s Music Festivals.

Making his debut with the Los Angeles Virtuosi Orchestra, Vittorio is the elder child of Maestro Carlo Ponti and has been studying the piano in Los Angeles, California with Ms. Ivana Grubelic Malo since the age of six.

In addition to regularly participating in Ms. Malo’s studio concert classes, Vittorio performed at various California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) General Recitals and has already garnered accolades for musical excellence at piano competitions and festivals.

These include a Third Prize and an Honorable Mention at the 2017 and 2019 CAPMT Sonata and Sonatina Competitions, respectively; a Musical Award at the 2019 Southern California Junior Bach Festival; an Honorable Mention at the 2019 CAPMT Romantic and Impressionist Competition; acclaimed performances at the 2018 Music Teacher’s Association of California’s Contemporary Festival, the division’s First Prize at the 2019 Southern California Junior Bach Festival Complete Works Audition Competition and, most recently, was awarded Third Place at the 2023 International School of Geneva’s Instrumental Music Competition in Switzerland.

This performance marks Vittorio’s first performance with an orchestral ensemble.
